McStain Neighborhoods continues to lead Colorado builders with the highest Energy Star level.

Energy Star Partner LogoToday we’re announcing our continued commitment to build and label our homes to meet the new and more rigorous Version 3 ENERGY STAR requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) for 2012.  We have been an industry leader since day one and built over 1,670 new homes that have earned EPA’s ENERGY STAR to date – more than any other Colorado home builder. As a result of our commitment to Energy Star, we are building our homes with upgrades such as Indoor Air PLUS and advanced lighting packages, something that you won’t find in other new homes.

“We’re proud to be making a commitment to continue building ENERGY STAR qualified homes in 2012,” states David Ware, president of McStain Neighborhoods. “By stepping up to the new requirements, we’re going to be offering customers state-of-the-art performance in our homes with a comprehensive package of features that deliver greater value, quality, and comfort than ever before.”

Homes built to the new, more rigorous Version 3 requirements will be at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and will include additional features to give them a performance edge of 20-30% compared to typical new homes and even more when measured against most re-sale homes on the market today.

ENERGY STAR qualified homes that earn the label in 2012 will be built with a comprehensive, building science-based approach that features:

A detailed package of home envelope air sealing, properly installed insulation, and high-performance windows to deliver comfort, durability, and lower utility bills.

  • A high-efficiency heating, cooling, and ventilation system designed and installed for optimal performance.
  • A complete water and moisture management package to protect roofs, walls, and foundations.
  • ENERGY STAR certified lighting and appliances that help reduce monthly utility bills.
  • Third-party verification, with independent inspections and testing by a certified Home Energy Rater.

Exceeding a Mom’s Expectations – read what a recent homeowner has to say about her homebuying experience.

I’m a single mom of three kids and had a lot of expectations for a new home. I wanted a unique and tasteful home that was big enough for my family, but didn’t want to maintain a yard.  And on top of all this, it had to be close to my kids’ school and in my price range; somewhat hard to find in this market!

As it turns out, this townhome, located in Hyland Village was the first – and only – place that I looked at.  The location, quality and attention to detail were all perfect.  I knew it was my home as soon as I walked in the front door.  I’ve lived here for a few months and absolutely LOVE IT!

This is the third new home I’ve bought.  My prior experiences with larger homebuilders were less than stellar.  My experience with buying a McStain home was absolutely effortless!  From the initial showing to the closing, I was SO impressed.  The quality of this townhome is spectacular, and I love the design; it’s comfortable and secure, airy and open – yet cozy all at the same time.  The attention to detail is remarkable and the quality is nothing short of first-rate.

The people who work for McStain Neighborhoods, are also impressive. Pat Murphy the superintendent has been simply wonderful from day 1!  He is responsive, caring, thorough, and has a great sense of humor.  He really cares about what he does, and takes and does a fantastic job.  He is truly an asset to your company!

Our Commitment Continues in Boulder County

With all of the recent publicity surrounding Boulder County, it’s no wonder it remains one of the most desirable places to live in Colorado. In early August, Boulder was named as the 3rd best place to live in America according to Top 100 Places to Live by RelocateAmerica’s list for 2011.  Not less than a week later, Money Magazine published its 2011 list of “100 best places to live in America,” highlighting Boulder County once again. They looked for places with the optimal combination of job opportunities, fiscal strength, top-notch schools, safe streets, good health care, outdoor activities, and even nice weather.  And if that wasn’t enough, Boulder made the top 25 recession resistant market list a few weeks ago by Forbes Magazine – recognizing Boulder as of one of the best places to buy real estate in the country.

All of this doesn’t really come as a surprise to us at McStain. We’ve been building in Boulder County for decades and will continue our commitment to this area for years to come. Along with our signature Indian Peaks South neighborhood, we are currently in the process of seeking two new development opportunities for both attached and single-family homes through new partnerships within the town of Boulder itself.
