Meet Robert Edmonds – CFO for McStain Neighborhoods

Robert’s adventures have taken him to a number of different places during his life; almost full circle from where he began years ago. Born in Boulder, just a few years after McStain was started, Robert’s life was full of travel, as his father was a Civil Service engineer for the Army.  While they lived primarily in Colorado, there was a brief stay in Germany and then back again to Colorado.  Here he decided to get his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Accounting at Denver University.

Soon after he graduated from college, he decided to leave the country again and travel to Africa to help his church run the accounting projects for schools, hospitals, agricultural development and business training. His passion for working in these villages lasted 3 years, and then he decided it was time to move back to Denver. There he did the accounting for various companies for a few years, until he was approached by a head hunter to work for McStain. Robert did his research about the company and decided it was a good fit, and his employment started in the year 2000.

Robert started off as a Job Cost Accountant, but he quickly rose up the ranks of the Accounting Department. Year after year as the housing market grew, so did McStain. At the peak of 2006, the company built 400 homes in five locations, and employed 120 people. However, with the housing bubble burst in early 2007, the company found themselves dealing with major employee layoffs to overcome the challenges of the market.  As a result, Robert’s position was eliminated in 2009. But by a stroke of luck, Robert was called back that same year to handle Accounting and IT Systems for McStain on a part-time basis.

“When I was asked to come back to McStain I didn’t hesitate. I really believe in the philosophy of this company and knew that they would rebound in this market. The owners Tom and Caroline, were pleased that I came back, as it offered them confidence to where McStain was headed,” states Robert.

Since that time, Robert had become a full-time employee again, and the small team that made up McStain reformulated the business model in 2010 and promoted Robert as the CFO of the company.  In his current role, he still wears many hats as he plays a role in payroll, human resources, IT, land acquisition, and banker and vendor relationships just to name a few. In addition to his professional role, he holds designations as a CPA and CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant), and also has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

“Robert’s involvement with investors is a critical part to positioning McStain with more opportunities in the future. He is invested in our company and his contributions are important to our success. We appreciate all the talents he brings to McStain,” declares David Ware, CEO of McStain Neighborhoods.

Indian Peaks is setting the standard for the way families want to live today.

Indian Peaks was recently featured in an article of The Daily Camera, citing that McStain Neighborhoods is setting the standard  in community homebuilding and now is the time to purchase a new home.  Buyers are responding enthusiastically to the opportunity of home ownership in the last available neighborhood of the award-winning Indian Peaks community in Boulder County. Since the early ‘90s, Indian Peaks has become known for its outdoor living, great architecture and smart, energy-efficient design. With miles of hiking trails, abundant open space and a Hale Irwin-designed golf course, the community has set the standard for the way families want to live today.

“A lot of families have waited to buy a new home, but people are telling us that they are again ready to make a move,” says David Ware, McStain CEO. “And Indian Peaks South offers a special opportunity to own a new home that is built to uniquely fit your needs and desires. With a full complement of ranch style, main-floor master plans and traditional two-story designs to choose from, you have plenty of options – and a trusted, local homebuilder with over 40 years of experience.”

One notable difference in today’s new home marketplace, Ware explains, is that available home inventories are more balanced to prevailing demand. In the past, you might find a half dozen homes available in some communities. “Over the last several years, buyers got used to being able to wait in a slower market. But we are now building to pace the market, and we are seeing our homes selling before they are completed. The good news is that buyers who buy early in their home’s construction are in the best position to get the most desired design and finish options. We are creating semi-custom homes at non-custom prices.”
