McStain Neighborhoods - We're on a mission here.

40 days of giving.

There are lots of ways to celebrate a 40th anniversary. A big party comes to mind. But we’ve decided to do something really meaningful that gives back to the community.

Our unique year-long program is called “40 Days of Giving.” Every employee and department - from accounting to sales to construction - is assigned to community volunteer teams. Each month, one team will choose a community non-profit organization to help. When all is said and done, McStain employees will have given at least 40 full days of volunteer time to the community.

Our 40 Days of Giving program will continue throughout 2006 and will support organizations like Adopt-a-Road, e-Town and various local blood drives. Come back often for updates on our latest activity. Click here to view a calendar of events.

June Update

Four rooms at the Brandon Center, a safe-house for battered women and children, received a special make-over this June.

The sales department and contracts and closing departments had eight hours to transform these rooms from dilapidated to fabulous! The team worked hard, stripping the baseboards, painting the walls, cleaning the floors, applying new baseboards, painting accent walls, providing new mattresses, lamps, rugs, fans, and adding many special touches including a different theme in each room.

The end result was a humbling realization by the McStain team how much we can take for granted, and a good feeling knowing we helped a few women feel special and more comfortable in their surroundings.

May Update

For May, our Finance Team trotted on over to the Lafayette Kids Park. The team spent Tuesday, May 23, fixing irrigation lines, weeding, spreading mulch, and cleaning the Sensory Botanical Gardens. During recess, some of the children at the local elementary school saw these hard working employees at work and came to join in the fun. When the work was all finished they had one of the four large botanical beds weeded, mulched, watered and ready for the summer.

April Update

Just outside the urban tapestry that is Stapleton, you will find a unique urban wildlife refuge and outdoor classroom called Bluff Lake Nature Center. In an effort to help beautify and preserve Colorado’s native ecosystems, April’s 40 Days of Giving project team, the construction department, built picnic tables and spent an afternoon repairing trails, digging out weeds, collecting trash and more!

McStain Neighborhoods and Bluff Lake Nature Center have built a relationship over the years, beginning with the Hoyt Foundation’s support of nature programs for young students at Bluff Lake Nature Center. This partnership continued to create opportunities educate others and preserve this refuge for generations to come.

March Update

Teens are all the same. Well, not exactly, but they are the same in the sense that they want a place to call their own and the support and love they all deserve. For our March 40 Days of Giving project, our land development department volunteered their time at Attention Home.

Attention Home is a nonprofit that has served adolescents and their families in Boulder County and the surrounding Metro area since 1966. The foundation of Attention Home is a commitment to providing shelter and counsel to abused, neglected, runaway and homeless boys and girls age 12 to 18.

We thought about what we could do for this great organization. Then it dawned on us…what do all teens need? Space for stuff! We constructed shelves in five closets in the home to give the teens staying there more room for their belongings. After all, those are the precious items that teens carry with them always, and we wanted to make sure they have room to keep all those treasures.

February Update

Spring is a time of rebirth, new beginnings and spring cleaning! At McStain Neighborhoods, our employees took steps to break old habits and start fresh, all to benefit their hearts and the American Heart Association. Each employee donated $5 to the American Heart Association. In return, they received a pedometer, a gift card to Jamba Juice and a challenge to be the employee to log the most miles in a 21 day period. Employees made a conscious effort to take the stairs and walk more. The employee with most mileage received dinner for two at Bloom restaurant in Flatirons Mall and a gift card to Dojos. Through the $5 donations and our matching funds program, we were able to donate more than $600 to the American Heart Association and improve our health in the process.
