McStain Neighborhoods - We're on a mission here.

We’ve learned a lot about building homes and neighborhoods over the last 40 years. And in that time we’ve learned that few things are more important than building a sense of community. Not just places where people live, but where their lives become richer. Each month during our 40th anniversary, we’ll reflect back on some of our favorite McStain communities.

Featured Community: High Plains Village, Loveland, Colorado

For most of our 40 years, we’ve focused on building homes in Metro Denver – places like Louisville, Lafayette, Boulder and Denver are close to our hearts. And then we met a couple of guys – Chad and Troy McWhinney – who had an exciting vision for the land their grandfather left them in Northern Colorado.

That vision eventually became Centerra, a 3,000-acre master-planned community located at I-25 and Highway 34 in Loveland. Full of shops, restaurants and acres of open space, Centerra is a community full of amenities that not only cater to its residents, but the natural environment as well.

The McWhinney’s selected McStain to build Centerra’s signature residential neighborhood. In 2002, we set out to build High Plains Village, a diverse collection of single-family homes, town homes and condominiums integrated with numerous parks, miles of trails and open space. Now, almost five years later, we feel its mission accomplished. High Plains Village has become a vibrant place to live - colorful homes, inviting tree-lined streets, busy parks, and nearby shops and restaurants help create a sense of community rarely found in new neighborhoods these days.

When building High Plains Village, we also understood that it’s not all about building new homes. That’s why we established the High Plains Environmental Center, a nonprofit, living laboratory dedicated to exploring and teaching the concepts and practices of environmental stewardship. Located within High Plains Village, the Center protects nearly 300 acres of wetlands, uplands and reservoirs. It also serves as a unique neighborhood amenity, conducting a variety of hands-on programs for children and adults, with topics ranging from bird identification to fine art painting to alternative vehicle technology.
