From Functional to Educational
Long before a stretch of land became the Promenade Shops at Centerra in Loveland, Colorado, the Jeffers family farm dotted the landscape.
In 2004, about half dozen outbuildings remained across the farm, just north of U.S. 34 along the Frontage Road, including an 800-square-foot barn. While the other structures were decrepit and had to be torn down, Jeff Medanich, McStain’s special projects manager, had something else in mind for the barn.
With McStain’s philosophy in mind, Jeff took this structure that used to house horses and barn equipment, and started the endeavor of preserving, moving and preparing its future site at the High Plains Environmental Center.
“This barn is an important part of Loveland’s history,” said Jeff. “It’s nice that we can be a part of our community’s historical preservation.”
Restoration of the structure has begun and will continue through the summer. The High Plains Environmental Center will use the barn for its land maintenance activities and eventually, it will hold environmental education classes for the public.
