Tom Hoyt
Co-founder 
Tom and his wife Caroline took over McStain in 1966 with a compelling vision of “Building a Better World.” Active in the community, Tom has been a director and board chairman of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, has been involved with Plan Boulder County and Historic Boulder, and is past chair of the City of Boulder’s Transportation Planning Task Force. He also is a member of the Colorado board of The Nature Conservancy and a member of the Urban Land Institute. Tom was inducted into the Boulder County Business Hall of Fame and was awarded the 2001 Professional Achievement Award by Professional Builder Magazine for his efforts in advancing green building and development practices in the industry. Additionally, McStain received the top award in the business category of the Colorado Ethics in Business Awards. Tom received a B.S. in architectural engineering from the University of Colorado.

Caroline Hoyt
Co-founder & Chief Designer
Caroline has planned and/or designed more than 6,000 homes in Northern Colorado. Along with her work at McStain, she is a Director of both the Center of the American West at the University of Colorado and the Continental Divide Trail Alliance.  She and her husband Tom were awarded the 2001 Professional Achievement Award by Professional Builder Magazine for their efforts in advancing green building and development practices in the industry, as well as the Denver Homebuilders of the Year award in 2008. Caroline received her architectural degree from the University of Colorado in 1968.

Patrick Murphy
Director of Operations
Pat oversees all aspects of the production home building and land development operations as well as the customer service functions for McStain. Pat has been the driving force behind the implementation of refined scheduling systems, level production techniques, the efficiencies associated with the forgoing and the development of the company’s leading customer service team. With McStain since 1987, Pat holds a B.S. from Colorado State University.
 
Robert Edmonds 
Chief Financial Officer 
Robert directs all aspects of finance, accounting, regulatory compliance and information technology. With McStain since 2000, Robert holds a B.S. and Masters in accounting from the University of Denver. His past experience was primarily in non-profit organizations ranging from health care to international agricultural and economic development.

David Ware
President 
David is in charge of all aspects of community development for the organization.  His functions encompass project visioning and platform development, budgeting, land entitlements, product development, integration of municipality codes and regulations, construction management and communications to all company departments to ensure the successful launch and completion of sustainable neighborhoods. David started with McStain as a construction superintendent.  He was instrumental in establishing the company’s urban core projects such as Lowry and Stapleton and brings field knowledge and intuition into neighborhood development.  David holds a B.S in Engineering from Clemson University and has been with the company for eight years. 

Lisa Marie Nygaard
Marketing Director, Webmaster & Interior Designer 
Lisa joined McStain in 2005 with over 21 years experience as a Project Coordinator, 12 years of which were in the home building industry. Lisa has diverse experience consisting of analytical and strategic planning for companies such as IKEA, RYOBI Tools and Browning Guns; Interior designing for University Hospital’s “Tranquility Home” and private residences; Web designing, programming and maintenance for companies such as Koelbel and Company, Colonnade Communities, O2Pure and Builder Realtor Council; Event planning for EchoStar; and graphic designing & production of marketing direct mail pieces, brochures, promotional items and trade show materials. Lisa has put all of this expertise to work at McStain, performing all aspects of website maintenance, ongoing marketing implementation, home staging, color selecting of exterior colors & materials for our single family and townhome products, as well as maintaining her original role as Project Coordinator assisting with all aspects of entitlements, product development, budgeting/accounting, HOA and overall day-to-day company functions.
