Building a Better World is our Passion

Indian PeaksFrom the start, home building was more than a business to us; it was a passion fueled by deeply held beliefs. We believed, for instance, that we could build a better world by rethinking the very nature of community. We could create places where people feel more of a connection to each other and to the natural environment. We could create places where enduring value is more important than conspicuous consumption. Not just places where people live, but where their lives become richer.

This is our way of thinking. It’s what makes a better, more valuable home for you.

And it’s what makes our neighborhoods so … McStain.

Long Lasting Tradition

Founded in 1966 by Tom and Caroline Hoyt, McStain Neighborhoods is a Colorado developer and homebuilder, recognized both regionally and nationally for its environmentally responsible home building practices and master-planned community design. For more than 44 years, McStain has created neighborhoods of enduring value that connect people to each other and to the natural environment on Colorado’s Front Range.

“We believe that the only truly sustainable human community is one built in balance with the natural environment.”

- Caroline Hoyt, co-founder of McStain

“When you’re a builder, you’re creating structures and patterns on the land that will be there for a very long time. And if you’re going to able to look yourself in the mirror, you’ve got to do it right.”

- Tom Hoyt, co-founder of McStain

We are still on a mission here at McStain Neighborhoods.

It is the same mission it has always been:

  • Design and build visionary communities in Colorado that integrate the aesthetic, physical and emotional needs of our customers.
  • Develop and build in a sustainable partnership with the natural environment.
  • Treat each other, our clients, associates, and the broader community we serve with respect and integrity.

Essentially, we will continue to evolve our capabilities in planning and design, and integrate them with IRG’s own capabilities in brownfield and infill development. Our goal will be to secure properties in key urban and suburban locations that are currently underutilized and transform them into homes and neighborhoods that showcase the state of the art in sustainable design and green practices.

“We believe in creating neighborhoods with enduring value that inspire our customers.”
- David Ware, President
